When I go on a date, I'm not looking for a guy to fail, per se. But I am paying attention. First impressions are definitely important. And it's the little things that can become BIG deal breakers.

A good example is the way that a man treats people in the service industry. I love to be wined and dined as much as the next girl. I appreciate that you're paying for the cab to our next destination. But for god's sake, don't treat the server or the cabbie like crap. I was once on my way to Brooklyn from an art opening in Chelsea. It was my first date with a man in the non-profit industry. Everything was going alright, despite his moth ball breath. I figured I could deal with that, buy a pack of gum. As we sat in the cab directing the driver, he started yelling at the poor man. I was appalled. I quickly butted in and apologized for his rude behavior. My date looked none too happy. The night never got "happier" for him, as I declined his invitation to his apartment and was promptly on my way to the abode of my f**k buddy.

His behavior toward the cabby, a human being - doing his job (while not speaking the most english) was unbelievable. I don't care how nicely you treat me, you have to show that you're a kind and understanding person. With regard for humanity. Who knows what would happen if I pursued a relationship with this guy? Once the honeymoon period ended, would he treat me like a coat check girl? Would he mouth off at me for silly mistakes? I don't want to be with someone that can't behave civilly to those around him. We're all just trying to make it in this world, why make it harder for people?

What are some of your dating pet peeves? What would you do if you were in my place?

I am in the hospitality industry and I've seen it all. It amazes me how much some people just don't get it when it comes to gratuities and treatment. there are some stereotypes in the industry about how certain people treat those in the service industry but I write them off because it is a case by case basis as far as I'm concerned. Instead of ethnicity I tend to see a big sway in how people treat people in the service industry based on where they're from, even when it comes to Americans. Native New yorkers are usually by far the best hands down.
In some cultures it is offensive to tip so I get that but there is no excuse for treating people badly. Even if they provide you with terrible service there is no reason to treat someone badly, that is classless and is ridiculous. I read an article recently that said that lower to middle class people treat those in the service industry so much better both personally and compensation wise and it has a lot to do with the reliance of social networking and relationships where as the wealthy rely less on such things because they feel that they rely soley on themselves. It even went as far as to say that a wealthy person was more likely to keep cash found in another persons wallet than an average joe. I found this very interesting.
I have gone above and beyond for people and have been improperly compensated and treated badly by those that i have gone through hoops for and even when I have dealt with those same people again I still treated them like gold because that is what I do and who I am and I refuse to let some douche change me lol.
There are a lot of people in the service industry that are not as lucky as I am. I make a great salary and do not rely on gratuities but most people in the industry do and while they should provide excellent service to be taken care of accordingly they should under no circumstances be treated as being less than whom they are serving! So many people like the cab driver you saw that jerk act like a dick to work long hours for almost nothing (Cabbies work 12hr shifts) most of them six days a week and even though they chose the job it may be their only option to support themselves and their families. So we should all treat people how we would want to be treated (didn't our parents tell us that?)
Anyway you seem awesome and I'm glad that jerk went home alone with his bad breath and you went on and had your fun!
