I put my fork down, and manage to swallow the salty pork belly before smiling awkwardly. After an evening of my sister gushing about her boyfriend, my grandmother had turned her attention to me and my lack of love interest. Every time we speak, it seems that as we talk about work and my apartment there's that one subject on her mind. My love life.

I understand that she wants to see me walk down the aisle at some point. She's not going to live forever. I'd love for her to witness me wed the person with whom I'm going to spend the rest of my hopefully happy life. I understand that she grew up in the 1940s/1950s and things were very different. These days, people my age can barely afford to leave the homes of their parents, let alone have a savings account. Buying a home and getting married seem almost like dreams. I find we're more concerned with finding a decent job, a good lay, or a cheap place to drink. At the rate I'm going, I'm not going to be able to afford to have kids until I'm like 50.

When this subject is broached I generally laugh it off. I don't particularly want to feel pressured to find a husband. But at the same time I'd love for my grandmother to witness "That Magic Moment". When does the search for a partner become an obligation? What are your motivations while out on the town? Are you trying to meet Mr. Right or Mr. Right for Tonight? And how the hell do you tell your grandma?
