Andy Warhol met David Bowie and decided to throw a party together, and then Madonna showed up and performed, and a young Terry Richardson decided to come snap some pictures to document the whole thing. That is one way to describe the party I went to last weekend. The Gowanus Art Fair was a night of Art, Dance, Music, Theater, Fashion, and Spectacle, organized by The Collective, an emerging artists' organization geared toward helping artists promote themselves and generate a greater following. On Saturday January 14, 2012, The Gowanus Art Fair was The Collective's debut event of many more to come.

To say this event was a hit, is an understatement. To illustrate this a bit I will start with the number of confirmed RSVPs. Something like five hundred people confirmed via Facebook or email, and over two hundred people responded to their invitation with a "maybe." Throughout the evening, it is estimated that a total of approximately five hundred people turned up. The event started at 7pm, and lasted until 2am. I performed at around midnight to a packed audience on the upper level of the Gowanus Ballroom. I could literally feel the floor shaking underneath me from everyone dancing.

I bring all of this up, not as a rouse to promote my band-that much goes without saying-but to illustrate yet another great way for a man and a woman to spend time together. GO TO SHOWS!!!! Going to live music performances, or multi-media events such as this, is a great way to get to know another person! If you are single and on the prowl, this is also a really great way to meet someone! What I am saying isn't anything anyone hasn't said before, but it truly does amaze me how few people actually put their heads outside the box when it comes to meeting people. And then they wonder why they are single. So, I am here to remind you, it breaks down to this:
shows=shared interest=something to talk about before/during/after=great date=great way to GET a date!!!!!

Here are some great venues to look into for upcoming events:

The Gowanus Ballroom    www.gowanusballroom.com
The Galapagos Art Space   www.galapagosartspace.com
The Bowery Ballroom        www.boweryballroom.com
The Highline Ballroom        www.highlineballroom.com
The Bowery Electric        www.theboweryelectric.com
Public Assembly            www.publicassemblynyc.com

The list of venues in New York goes on forever. Another smart thing to do is go on the website of your favorite band and look up their tour dates. See when they play in your area. Now we even have websites such as spotify.com and pandora.com or even itunes that help us not only look up the music of our favorite performers but also look into music that is similar, so as to broaden our repertoire of artists.

Now back to my weekend...We had a great show. This was truly a party thrown by artists for artists. This was a warm, welcoming, fun environment, with a great deal of mingling and networking. I met a ton of new people, and hopefully gained a few more fans. I would definitely take part in another event by The Collective, and I would highly recommend events such as these for meeting new people, or going on a first or second date. You can learn more about The Collective here: http://thecollectivebk.blogspot.com/

And of course...last but not least you can check out my music here: http://www.youtube.com/user/LexelleMusic/videos

I do hope you enjoy! Happy Dating!

I haven't been to Gowanus yet but I'm a live music junkie. Will check it out next time they have an event.
